Helvetica Font Family typeface was initially launched as Neue Haas Grotesk and was designed in 1957 by Max Miedinger for the Haas’sche Schriftgiesserei (Haas Type Foundry) in Switzerland.
The title was modified to Helvetica Font Family (an adaptation of Helvetia, the Latin title for Switzerland) by Walter Cunz when D. Stempel AG, a significant stockholder in Haas, reworked the design for Linotype GmbH in Frankfurt, a significant stockholder in Stempel.
The Mergenthaler Linotype Company in New York, then a significant stockholder of Linotype GmbH, adopted the design, and it quickly turned the most well-liked sanserif on the planet, changing Futura.
Helvetica Font Family is designed as a powerful central sequence, with condensed and prolonged varieties and excessive weights tailored and added later, a system which suited Linotype mechanical limitations and advertising philosophy, however which resulted in a household of weights that weren’t as effectively coordinated as they could have been.
Linotype’s restricted licensing compelled numerous unauthorized copies of Helvetica Font Family, none of which can be considered as an enhancement.
